meet the founder
building a small dating app for people with taste.
no algorithm. no swiping. no follows. quip is the dating app i wanted to use — one where you meet people through the books they're reading and the films they won't shut up about.
the idea
most dating apps optimise for engagement — keep users swiping. quip optimises for the opposite: get people off the app, into a conversation, into a real first date. the whole product is built around that exit.
how it's different
- taste-first profiles. your favourite films + books are the headline, not your six-pack. shared taste is the conversation.
- one chat at a time. no parallel hoarding. when you're in a conversation, you're in it.
- posts, not prompts. say something real and let it travel. people decide whether to reply.
- end-to-end encrypted DMs. messages stay between you and the person you're talking to. that's it.
where it's going
date proposals straight from a shared watchlist. compatibility scored on how you actually rate things, not which corporate value you chose. real venues, picked by humans, in the cities people actually live in.
